The History of Rolex Watches

Rolex is a brand that has been synonymous with luxury watches for over a century. In 1905, Hans Wilsdorf and Alfred Davis established the company in London, under the name Wilsdorf and Davis. At the time, wristwatches – which are ubiquitous now – were still in their infancy. However, Wilsdorf was convinced that they would become more popular than pocket watches. He wanted to create a watch that was both accurate and reliable and could withstand the rigours of everyday wear. In 1908, the company registered the name “Rolex” and moved its base to Geneva, Switzerland.

The first wristwatch with the Rolex name inscribed on the dial appeared in 1910. Over the years, the company innovated and introduced various technological advances – from the world’s first waterproof watch, the Rolex Oyster in 1926, to the first self-winding chronometer in 1931. Rolex watches have been worn by many prominent figures, including Sir Edmund Hillary, who wore a Rolex when he became the first person to reach the summit of Mount Everest in 1953.

Rolex History

Today, Rolex is known for its high-quality products and attention to detail. Each watch is assembled by hand, using only the highest quality materials. The brand’s popularity has remained constant over the years, with collectors often paying astronomical sums for vintage models. If you’re looking to make an investment in a watch that will last you a lifetime and be passed on to future generations, Rolex is definitely worth considering.
